Hurra for 17. mai!

Då er 17, mai over for denne gong.
Her er nokre lånte bilete frå den aktuelle dagen. Dei er linka.

Det er sjølvsagt mange flagg i prosejonen!
Of course there are a lot of flags in the procession!

Skulekorpset.
The school band in National Costumes.

Korpsa spela.
We have bands playing marches, our National Hymn, and other hymns.

Barnetog.
The children walk in procession down the streets.
There is no traffic at the time, everyone is watching.
Borna syng.
The youngest school children are singing.

Desse fekk pris for kjekkaste innslag.
Organizations are free to join the procession.
These won the award for best contribution to the procession.

Hurray for the 17th of May! It's over for this year, our wonderful National Day. Next year will be Norways 200th jubilee, but this year wasn't bad either. In Norway, we all gather at our local community to walk in procession, or "17. mai tog" - 17th of May train, as we call it. It's the children's big day, when we celebrate an independant Norway. It's a day of playing games oustide, cheering and eating ice cream. We gather at local schools for games, eating and meeting other people. We all wish each other happy birthday. All who has one, will wear their National Costume, the "bunad". Bunads vary locally.
I was busy from 9 am til 6 pm executing celebration at our local school. Finnaly I could leave our local school with a bit of a good conscience when it was all over. It's nice, but busy to arrange May 17th. It's really wonderful to see the parents engage 110 % to make everything work out for our children. I feel it all went great. I didn't get to see anything going on around me, I was working in the cafeteria all day. I didn't get to see the rain, either, just as well...
Over are some borrowed pictures from this marvellous day. The picures are linked.
